Small Animal Consultations
Small animal consultations are available by appointment, during clinic opening
hours. This time with the vet includes a full health examination to assess any ailments your pet
has. In some cases, further work up of the case may be necessary, such as blood tests, ultrasound,
x-ray, hospitalisation or even surgical correction. It may be found that medications are required
for your pet, which can be dispensed during this time from our comprehensive pharmacy.
Consultation times may be arranged whenever you think there is a problem, or for routine check ups. We strongly recommend that your pet should be examined once a year to pick up subtle problems you may not know about, before they become serious. For pets over 10 years old, a 6 monthly check is recommended. House Calls for Small Animals
We offer a house call service for established clients
within clinic hours, where the situation requires it, but
it is nearly always preferable for small animals to come
to our well-equipped clinics, where there are plenty of
staff available to assist. We do understand that certain
situations, such as having to put your pet to sleep, would
be more comfortable at home, therefore we are more than
happy to come to you for this service.
Large Animal Property Calls The Latrobe Veterinary Group ceased providing routine and emergency property calls for large animals in February 2007 to focus on our core area of quality small animal practice. Dr Kate Haines continues to provide equine chiropractic service throughout Gippsland – contact either clinic for further information. General Surgery - including Desexing Our clinics are equipped to carry out all routine and many of the more unusual veterinary surgical procedures and our veterinary surgeons have years of experience under their belts. We are committed to making surgical desexing as affordable as possible for the community – enquire about our Special Desexing Days, every Tuesday Dentistry Dr Kay Mitchell has a particular interest in Veterinary Dentistry and we perform many routine dental procedures. There is growing evidence of the wide health benefits of good pet dental health, and we strongly recommend feeding raw bones to every pet to promote this. Should dental problems develop though, it is best to deal with them as soon as possible to prevent health complications such as heart & kidney disease or a mouth full of rotton, painful teeth. A quick anaesthetic, scale & polish will prevent a lot of problems. Every pet’s mouth should be thoroughly checked at least every year to assess dental health. Referral Service
Although we can handle the vast majority of conditions within
our clinics, some cases such as eye surgery, spinal surgery
and other complex cases are best dealt with by registered Veterinary
Specialists in these fields. We willingly offer and organise
referrals to specialists for complicated, unresponsive or difficult
cases.
Dr Kate Haines often receives referrals from other veterinarians for veterinary chiropractic care or acupuncture and Dr Amanda Rhodes-Andrew also receives referrals for complex surgical cases.
